My career:
US Navy and Staffing Manager, PrideStaff
About Me:
Let’s see… It was a dark and stormy night… No, wait – that’s another story! Gosh – where to start? I’ll do my best to keep this succinct, but informative.

The story, after 1988

I bid farewell to Concordia in February of 1990 when I left for my Navy life. I tried college after graduating, but found I didn’t have quite enough self-discipline for living on my own and going to school full-time. Working at McDonald's wasn't exactly paying the bills, so a change was necessary. The Navy was always an option for us kids, as we had been raised in a military family. I raised my right hand, and away I went.

Off to boot camp in Orlando, Florida. My first plane flight! After basic training, I went to Pensacola, Florida for ‘A’ school – Advanced Electronics. I was in Pensacola for almost a year and was then given orders to Guam.

While stationed on Guam, I met my husband-to-be. We married in 1993. Guam was/is a great duty station – a tropical paradise – scuba diving, boonie stomps (hiking), 4-wheeling…we were sad to transfer, but it was good to come back to the states after almost four years away. We settled in San Diego where my husband (Herb) was able to finish his 20 years. When he retired, we left San Diego and moved to his home state of Arizona in 2002.

I chose not to continue my active duty service, and went into the Reserves in 1997. I currently have 18 years of service in the Navy, and am honored to have earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. I can retire at my twenty, but would like to stay and play as long as the Navy lets me. It would be nice to retire as a Senior Chief (E-8) – just like my Dad!

Anyhoo, after we moved to Arizona, I needed to work to build up the nest egg for our future home purchase. I started working as a temp, and about eight months later came into the office to work with Boss Lady full time. Soon, it will be six years. It is a rewarding job - I put people to work. Maybe, eventually, I’ll start back with the college classes – the thought of being a teacher still appeals to me.

We enjoy a dual-income, no kids lifestyle – spending time with our family and friends, going on motorcycle rides, traveling, etc. Being first-time homeowners also finds us enjoying all the pleasures of home ownership– maintenance, painting, minor remodeling, landscaping, etc. I am looking forward to starting a vegetable and herb garden - get back in touch with my country upbringing!

My Mom still lives in Jamestown, just her and her dog. My sister, Kimberly, now lives in Tucson. She is a nurse and a Corpsman in the Navy. My "baby" brother, Rick is also in the Navy, and is stationed in San Diego. He’s due to retire in August of 2010, and does plan on coming back home – lucky him.

There – that’s my life in less than five hundred words!

Happy Thanksgiving - What are You Thankful For?

There are so many things to that I am thankful for - my family, my friends, my health, getting to go home/home for Thanksgiving this year. I am thankful for the time I will get to spend with my Mom.

I am thankful that we are able to go home. I know many who are not, and I know that their family will keep their far-away loved ones close in their hearts and prayers.

And finally, I am thankful that Andre started this website. I have enjoyed seeing the journey life has taken us all on.

I am looki… Continue

Howdy Shannon. The plants live in the GH from mid October until May each year. It's all worth it when I get an orange, banana, or plumeria!

Hi Shannon,

I would love to meet up with you and to meet your husband. My mom is coming out for 2 weeks the end of Nov / 1st of Dec...but she leaves on that 1st Friday - the 5th. Depending upon which weekend it is that you will be in San Diego I should be able to drive down and visit you. Let me know what date it is and I will put it on my calendar so I am sure to make it. ;-) It would be great to reconnect.

I have loved Yoohoo for a long long time...so I would guess that your memory is accurate. They are quite the indulgence.

I love the pictures of you and your hubby. Very great!

Good to hear from you. Thanks for the compliment on the family pix. I do just love them to pieces. Looks like things are going great with you too. You look happy! :)
My oldest son, Landin plays the trumpet. Lathan plays the drums. They both play piano too. I love to listen them play, but their band is not half as good as ours was in school. We were very fortunate to have a big band and some wonderful directors! They still enjoy it though and I think as they get older, they will appreciate it even more.
Hope you have a nice trip back home.
It will be good to see you at the next reunion.

Hi Shannon! Thanks for downloading those band songs on here. I have a sad little cassette tape of those songs that I would listen to sometimes. Now I can make a CD! My 2 sons are in band and I let them listen to us. They couldn't believe how good we sounded! Glad things are going well with you! Hopefully, you can make it to the next reunion. :)

And Damn... we are COOKING on Havendance! That is way faster than it was scored! Definitely we smoked the University Band recording I have on here. And we are so much more dramatic than the college band too. That Bud Miesel! He really knew what he was doing!

Nice job getting the tunes on here, converted to the mp3 format. I am impressed! But of course, I believe that a considerable portion of my federal tax dollars went towards training you in electronics... I am so glad we invested in you!
